Piroctone Olamine ( C14H23NO) is an Anti fungal to combat seboheric dermatitis and dandruff.  Dandruff is a disorder of the scalp that causes increased scaling of the SC and is associated with Malassezia fungus.

Piroctone Olamine is typically used in shampoos to reduce dandruff and at the same time has good conditioning properties and reducing sebum production.  It also appears to be slightly more effective than zinc pyrithione in reducing the severity and area affected by the scaling.1

Effective levels can reduce local irritaion contributing to hair loss.  However, over exposure can cause irritaion and itching.  Maximum treatment suggested is twice a week.

Piroctone Olamine is sensitive to UV light and should be kept away from direct sunlight.
