Tea tree oil is a natural essential oil derived from the Australian plant Melaleuca alternifolia which has been traditionally used by the Aboriginal people to treat wounds and skin infections. Its composition includes about 100 well-defined components, one of which is 4-Terpineol. Studies have shown that tea tree oil effectively reduces demodex mite populations in individuals with rosacea and helps alleviate inflammation linked to blepharitis, conjunctivitis and keratitis. Overall, 4-Terpineol has proven to be the safest and most effective compound for eliminating demodex mites and other microorganisms associated with skin infections.
